Artist Statement

I paint colourful portraits, full of stories and emotion, from the books and movies I love.

My mediums are acrylics, oils, gold leaf and spray paint. My palette preference is vibrant and complementary. My subjects are figurative, in a semi-realistic, abstract style, in which I create using brushes, rollers and palette knives.

My previous work includes a five-part series, inspired by Hermetic philosophy and the

principle of correspondence, exploring the relationship between the cosmos, the external world and the self. The series also forms the medicine wheel.

I recently created a portrait of the Greek goddess Deina, from the fictional novel Daughter of Darkness, exploring her embodiment of female strength, tenacity and the boundary between life and death. This work will form part of a developing two-part series, continuing with the recently released novel, Queen of the Gods.

I believe this work matters because in stories lies great healing, I infuse all of my paintings with messages of strength and self healing. The world needs more of that.
